How to remove unneeded plugins for AVG Email Scanner

Close all running applications before removing the plugins.

To remove unnecessary plug-ins:
1. Go to this Web page for the latest installation file:

2. Click the "Download" button, and when asked, choose to save the file.
3. Save the file to the Desktop.
4. Double-click the AVG installation file icon on the Desktop.
5. Follow the installation wizard and click "Add or Remove Features".
6. In the component selection window, under E-mail Protection, select the E-mail Scanner plugin(s) you want to use.
7. Finish the installation wizard, and then restart your computer.

AVG 2012 directly supports:
- Microsoft Outlook 2003, 2007 and 2010 (part of the Microsoft Office installation).
- The BAT! 1.61 and higher.
- Mozilla Thunderbird

If you use one of these e-mail clients, select only the plugin needed for your e-mail client.

If you use (or plan to use) another e-mail client (for example Outlook Express or Incredimail) select the Personal E-mail Scanner plugin.

Configure AVG Anti Spam Spoofed Senders

The “Spoofed senders” option in AVG Anti-Spam Filtering allows the blocking of spammers who spoof your domain name and other domain names. For example, spammers often use the recipient's domain name as the From: domain name. The list allows you to specify which mail servers are allowed to use which domain names in the From: address.

The sender’s domain and IP address from the e-mail header is compared with the Spoofed senders configuration. If it is not in the range of allowed e-mail server IP addresses, the “offset value” is added to the overall anti-spam score in the message header.

A) You can change the Anti-Spam component configuration as follows:
1. Open the AVG program.
2. On the Tools menu, click “Advanced settings.”
3. On the left tree menu select E-mail Protection -> Anti-Spam -> Expert settings -> Filtering -> Spoofed senders.
4. Configure the settings as follows:
- Address: Specify the domain name (e.g.: domain.edu.au).
- IP Range: Specify the range of public IP address of the domain.
- Offset: Please enter a number from 0 to 100.
5. Save all changes by clicking OK.

B) If you use your own mailserver, it may happen that the server will add its own public IP address to the e-mail header. In such case, it is necessary to apply additional modifications to Anti-Spam configuration file.

Please check received e-mail header and find the last added public IP address (i.e. the most top public IP address):
- If the address belongs to sender's domain, no additional change needs to be done.

- If the address belongs to your mailserver, please modify Anti-Spam configuration file as follows:
1. Locate file spamcatcher.conf
2. Add a new line with comma separated list of IP addresses or IP ranges defining your mailservers; example of the syntax follows:

ignored_ip_list=1.2.3.4,2.3.4.5-2.3.4.8,2.3.4.0/24,5.6.0.0/16

3. After saving the modified configuration file, restart the computer.

This way, the Spoofed Senders feature will be functioning correctly (it will ignore your mailserver's IP address in the e-mail header)
